After you've cleansed and toned your face, it's time to use a serum before applying your moisturizer or cream.  Most serums contain few key ingredients that help with dark spots, brightening, wrinkles, etc., and adds an extra layer to hydrate your face.  It's thicker in consistency and more concentrated than a toner but still somewhat watery.
